March 19th marked as the arrival of the Persian New Year “Nowruz”. Google celebrates the occasion with beautiful Doodle on its homepage.

Nowruz marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere i.e. the moment at which the Sun crosses the celestial equator and equalizes night and day is calculated exactly every year.

Traditional customs of Nowruz include fire and water, ritual dances, gift exchanges, reciting poetry, symbolic objects and more; these customs differ between the diverse peoples and countries that celebrate the festival.

The Google blog says that, the festival have been celebrated for over 3000 years.

Here are some customs of Nowruz you should know.

During the Nowruz festival,people do some chores works and are expected to do some small works at their home as listed below:-

  • House cleaning and shopping
  • Visiting Family and Friends
  • Food Preparation
  • Haft-sin
  • Haft-mewa
  • Khoncha

Who celebrates Nowruz?

Nowruz meaning ‘New Day’ is celebrated by many group of people in Black sea basins, the Balkans, western Asis, Central and southern Asia and by Iranian people worldwide.
